The Railroad Designer: James Adams
The Railroad Designer: James Adams
First, please excuse the mess as I am still developing the website.
My name is James Adams and I go by the title The Railroad Designer. That is what I do. I design and build professional model railroad layouts. I designed and built my first personal railroad at the age of 9 and I joined my first modular railroad club at the age of 18.
After 31 years of designing and building layouts for myself and as a member of several clubs over a 50 year span I decided to become a professional in 2010 and founded AffordableModelRailroads.com, in 2015 founded RailroadBackdrops.com and 2020 founded BackdropsOnly.com.
While I still build a railroad or two each year, and I still operate the two backdrop companies I have increasing requests for design services and so I am looking to my future and am now transitioning to concentrate my efforts on the designing of layouts.
Through this site I offer my services to those who want to hire a professional to do the design and layout plan for their dream layout. Hopefully I can also impart some wisdom on layout design to those who may want to learn something about designing their own layout.
I hope you gain some knowledge and enjoyment learning about the custom model railroad design process through this site and when you contact me for assistance with your custom model railroad layout design.
Below are a couple pictures of layouts built be AffordableModelRailroads.com from my designs.
"I have been a lifelong model railroad enthusiast building models and custom model railroads since I got my first Christmas train set when I was 9 years old. I am or have been a member of the NMRA, The Jackson Area Model Railroaders in Jackson, Tennessee, the Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club in Bend, Oregon, the Amarillo Railroad Museum in Amarillo, Texas, the California Southern Model Railroad Club in Norwalk, California and two now defunct clubs in Phoenix, Arizona".
